Sensex gains for 6th day in a row, closes 134 points up; Punjab National Bank up 7 pct

Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty advanced for sixth consecutive trading session on Monday on account of buying in frontline blue chip counters. Market sentiments remained strong due to firm rupee, progress of monsoons and strong global cues.
 
The Nifty ended up 0.51 percent at 8,370.70, after rising nearly 3 percent in the past five sessions. It hit its highest level since Aug. 20, 2015 earlier in the session.
 
The Sensex closed 0.49 percent higher at 27,278.76, after rising as much as 0.89 percent earlier in the session to its highest since Oct. 26, 2015.
 
Tata Motors jumped 2.5 percent after the company reported an 8 percent jump in its total passenger and commercial vehicle for June.
 
In the 50-share index, BHEL, Adani Ports, Tata Motors DVR, ICICI Bank and ONGC gained between 3 per cent and 4.52 per cent. On the other hand, ITC, Bosch, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank and Grasim lost between 1.35 per cent and 2.68 per cent.
